How to Prepare Your Kids for Pictures with Santa

Some toddlers simply won’t sit on Santa’s lap—and that is completely okay. Toddler pictures with Santa can include standing beside him, sitting with a sibling, holding your hand, or interacting from a comfortable distance. There is no required pose. There is no required lap pose. I’ll work with your child’s comfort level and the session format you’ve chosen.

There’s no perfect age for pictures with Santa. Babies bring sweet snuggles, toddlers give us wonderfully honest reactions, and older kids enjoy sharing their Christmas wishes. First pictures with Santa do not need to include a perfect smile. Every age creates a meaningful memory of this season in your family’s life.

Select familiar fabrics and worn-in shoes, and have them try on the complete outfit beforehand so they feel comfortable and ready to enjoy the experience.

Yes—parents are always welcome in pictures with Santa. I know that having a parent nearby can help a young or nervous child feel safe. You aren’t disrupting the portrait—you’re giving your child reassurance. Sometimes those cuddled-up family photographs become the most meaningful ones.
