Christmas Family Photo Outfits That Photograph Beautifully

Not at all. Choose clothing based on how you want to see and enjoy these images in the future and what feels right for your family. Holiday pajamas, a dressed-up Christmas look, or something in between can all photograph beautifully. There isn’t one right way to dress for Christmas photos—the goal is for your family to look and feel like you.

Choose colors that complement your Christmas set and each other. I love cream, camel, forest green, burgundy, navy, and other warm or rich tones. For a darker, more dramatic set, lighter neutrals can help your family stand out beautifully.

Absolutely. I prefer deeper reds and burgundy over very bright Christmas red, especially when the set already has a lot of red. You also don’t need everyone wearing it. A red bow, shoes, tights, or another small detail may be all you need.

Comfort comes first. Choose soft clothing your toddler can easily move around in and have them try everything on before session day. Test new shoes and hair accessories too. We want their attention on Santa—not an itchy sweater, uncomfortable shoes, or a headband falling into their face.

Yes, I always recommend coming photo-ready to my Glen Mills studio. You may decide you’d love a family photograph once you see your children with Santa. And younger children who are unsure of Santa may feel more comfortable sitting with an older sibling—or even Mom or Dad. Coming dressed gives us options without adding stress.

Start planning a few weeks before your session if possible, but don’t assume that means buying everyone something new. Shop your closets first, then buy only what you’re missing. Starting early gives you time to see everything together, exchange anything that doesn’t work, and avoid last-minute shopping.
